Choosing the right designer/architect that has experience with Acreage Homes.

Most architects and designers pride themselves on their adaptability, which allows them to tailor their design style to meet the client’s needs. However, some residential designers or architects may have an overriding design responsiveness that they bring to “every project”.

For example, a designer might specialize in sleek modern homes, and do very little in the way of traditional or historic home design. Or visa-versa, a designer might specialize in Craftsman style or Mountain style homes and does very little work with a modern look.

Regarding acreage design, there are designers that specialize in country living and know what is required over and above that of say “city slicker lifestyle”, such as experience in rural design requirements of water-well, septic systems, and mechanical systems that are totally different from “city homes”.

Acreage build cost will differ from a city built home cost:

  • Septic system – $28,000 to $40,000
  • Road/driveway (depends on how long) – the average is $40,000 for say 300 lineal ft. of paved driveway
  • Water well and water pressure system – $20,000 to 30,000
  • Electrical servicing hook-up (depends on how long) – average is $8,000 to $10,000
  • Landscaping – the average is $30,000(this can become enormous for elaborate landscaping)
  • These are all costs that are “above and beyond” the normal home cost compared to a home built on a normal city lot. Of course, these acreage costs can vary greatly depending on site conditions and where available services exist.
